Important Spring 2023 Dates

Spring Symposium on Undergraduate Research, Creativity, and Community Engagement schedule, presentations, and speakers.

Faculty please complete this application, include a list of your student’s presentations, names, titles, and day/time on the spreadsheet template and upload within the form.

Symposia Application

Guidelines

Oral Presentations

  • Oral presentations are 20 minutes (including a 5 minute Q & A).
  • Rehearse your presentation to ensure it meets time requirements.
  • Please be present for the entire session.
  • Consult with the Writing Center for assistance in your research process.
  • Suggested dress is casual business attire.

Poster Presentations

  • Sessions are 2 hours. Please be present for the entire session.
  • Poster boards (4ft x 3ft), tacks, and easels are supplied.
  • Large format poster printing is available at Ramsey Library.
  • Consult with the Writing Center for assistance in your research process.
  • Suggested dress is casual business attire.

Abstract Guidelines

  • Abstract not to exceed 250 to 300 words
  • Do not include keywords
  • Do not include references
  • Do not bold, italicize or underline words
  • Format the abstract in one paragraph, single-spaced
  • Use Times New Roman font, size 12
  • Formatting:
    • Title
    • Student Name(s), Advisor name(s), Discipline
    • Abstract text
  • Submit abstract file as- (Last Name, First Name)
  • If submitting multiple abstracts- Doe, Jane (1) and Doe, Jane (2)
  • Submit as a Word Document as a .doc or .docx

Outline of Symposium Program shared with departments
The Undergraduate Research Program office compiles a roster of symposium participants, sorted by and shared with departments
March 17
Departmental schedules due
The Spring Symposium will be in person, although virtual presentations may be necessary and desirable in some cases, at the discretion of departments. Departments are asked to organize presentation times within their own discipline and submit room requests for presentations to studentresearch@unca.edu. We will try to accommodate everyone’s time and location preferences.
April 7Spring Symposium Schedule posted live
April 18Spring Symposium 8:30 am to 5:00 pm in-person

Students may continue to submit presentation links for inclusion in the university-wide program if desired.  This includes narrated slides, powerpoints, still slides, and video links to in-person presentations. Send to: studentresearch@unca.edu
